Philip Martin Teacher
PHILIP MARTIN has a passion for teaching and has, in his vast experience of over 40 years, produced whole new generations of younger colleagues who are making their own mark in the profession. Many of these have won International recognition and it gives Philip a particular pleasure to watch their progress whether this is in the major concert halls of London and elsewhere or simply to watch and experience Philipís own legacy of teaching.
A Professor of Piano and Composition at Birmingham Conservatoire, Philip has held residencies in several Universities in the United States and Canada and has given master classes in the Aspen and Tanglewood Summer schools besides his regular appearances at Chethams summer school, among others, at home.
In his teaching, he puts an emphasis on tone-production and touch, bringing out the poetry in performance and the importance of the mastery of the pedal, which according to his teacher and mentor, Louis Kentner, singled out one pianist from another making them interesting and individual.
Philip also greatly enjoys helping the ìamateurî pianist reach their full potential and he enjoys a busy private teaching studio in his home in Worcestershire.
